Dr. David W. Kistler
Dr. David W. Kistler, our school's namesake, is a prominent area physician and philanthropist. For over 50 years, the doctor served our community as a physician, health care leader, humanitarian and champion for education. From "Physician of the Year" to past President of the Wilkes-Barre Board of Education, Dr. Kistler's accomplishments are storied throughout the area. Having retired in 2002, Dr. Kistler's continues to contribute to the children of Kistler in two separate ways. Through the Luzerne Foundation, Dr. Kistler continues to fund and support the Kistler Scholarship given to a selected 6th grade student who qualifies on the basis of scholarship, citizenship and need. The good doctor also generously supports the efforts of our PTO each and every year by helping us to bring a special event or program to the kids at his expense. So now if someone asks, "Who is Dr. David Kistler?" Well, now you know.
Kistler PTO
The Kistler Parent Teacher Organization was established in 1980. We are a PTO, not a PTA and we have no membership dues. We are administered by elected officers which include a president, vice-president, corresponding secretary, secretary, treasurer, and treasurer trustee. Our meetings are held every other month, typically in the school music room on the first Monday at 7 pm. We welcome all who want to belong and help our PTO which is dedicated to enhancing our children's educational experiences at Kistler. We sponsor whole school programs and assemblies, book fairs, a school store, a spring raffle and other fundraising activities designed to provide funding for school programs. If you have a child at Kistler, you are already a member of the PTO. Come and join us.
